The Leather Loafer Theory

A friend recently shared how excited she was to pull out a pair of shoes she bought thirty years ago— a beautiful, classic leather loafer she admittedly spent a bit more on at the time. But she loved them. She felt something when she slipped them on. And all these years later, they’re still perfect. Still beautiful. Still her. It made me think about how true this is with interiors.

When we design intentionally— when we choose furniture, art, and accessories that are well-made, thoughtfully selected, and absolutely right for the person and the home— they become treasures. Pieces that feel just as good decades later as the moment they arrived. They settle in, they hold memories, and they keep showing up with quiet confidence.

Yes, sometimes that means investing a bit more upfront. But like the perfect leather loafer, good design has longevity. Quality has staying power. And the pieces you genuinely love? Those become the ones you enjoy for years… maybe even a lifetime.

Let’s just call it The Leather Loafer Theory:

Buy what you love.
Choose what’s made well.
Surround yourself with pieces that will still feel like “you” decades from now.

Your future self will thank you.
